Global Footprint Network supports NCD

13 August 2012: The Global Footprint Network has become the latest supporter of the Natural Capital Declaration (NCD), which was formally launched at Rio+20.

A statement by the Global Footprint Network said that “[a]s financial institutions are an integral part of the economy and society, initiatives like the Natural Capital Declaration are important to help lead the way.”

The NCD is a commitment made by CEOs from the finance sector to integrate natural capital accounting into their financial products and services. So far it has been signed by the CEOs of 39 banks, investment funds and insurance companies.

In addition to its CEO signatories, the NCD also has a growing list of non-financial institution supporters. The Global Footprint Network joins supporters such as WWF, UNDP, the Forest Footprint Disclosure Project (FFD) and the UK Sustainable Investment and Finance Association (UKSIF).

The Global Footprint Network is a nonprofit research organisation whose programs are designed to “influence decision makers at all levels of society and to create a critical mass of powerful institutions using the Footprint to put an end to ecological overshoot and get our economies back into balance”.
