Infraprev first Brazilian financial institution to endorse Natural Capital Declaration

24 May 2012, Brazil: The “Instituto Infraero de Seguridade Social” – Infraprev (Infraero Institute of Social Security) is the first Brazilian signatory of Natural Capital Declaration, which will be launched in three weeks at the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (“Rio+20”), in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The Declaration is a statement by the financial sector committing to work towards integrating natural capital criteria into financial products and services in 21st century.

“By endorsing the initiative, Infraprev reaffirms its commitment to the environment and society. We also encourage other Brazilian institutions to engage in reporting on the use of natural resources in their activities,” said Carlos Frederico Duque, CEO of Infraprev.

Dunque joins the CEOs of twenty one financial institutions in the United States, United Kingdom, China, Italy, Netherlands, Australia, Mexico, Ecuador, Paraguay, British Isles, South Africa and New Zealand.

“Sustainable development is the way that pension funds will follow in this century. The sector engagement will allow the emergence of new forms of investments, with benefits to society. It is a responsibility that pension funds will have to assume more and more, in view of their long-term commitments”, explained Duque.
