NCD Roadmap and Business Plan
The NCD Roadmap
To help achieve the Declaration’s aims, signatories have developed an NCD Roadmap paper. The core objective of the NCD Roadmap is to provide financial institutions that have signed the NCD with the means (tools, metrics, business case) to integrate natural capital considerations in all relevant asset classes and financial products, and to work towards their inclusion in financial accounting, disclosure and reporting.
The NCD Roadmap was launched May 2013 to mark the start of Phase 2 of the NCD to support implementation of the four NCD commitments by financial institutions. This follows the initial phase of engaging first-mover signatories and supporters.
Four Working Groups, each chaired by a signatory financial institution with expert help from supporting organisations, have been established to implement the NCD Roadmap:
Working Group 1: Understand impacts and dependencies on natural capital
Working Group 2: Embed natural capital considerations in loans, equities, bonds and insurance products
Working Group 3: Account for natural capital financially in accounting frameworks
Working Group 4: Disclose and report on natural capital
The Roadmap defines key outputs for these work areas by 2020.The NCD does not aim to be prescriptive to signatories but rather to quantify the business rationale for different types of products and services and develop methodologies to integrate natural capital considerations for various asset classes. Ultimately, the level of integration will depend on a range of factors, including but not limited to the application of outputs delivered during Phase II, the business rationale to integrate natural capital, the regulatory environment in a given country, and continuous support and resources from senior management.

The NCD Business Plan
The Secretariat has also developed a Business Plan to help guide fundraising, estimate the budget for this programme, and expand on the outputs and deliverables. If you would like a copy of the Business Plan, please contact the Secretariat, via the ‘Contact us’ page.
